Hospice Awareness Week 14-20 May 2012

14th May 2012

This week is Hospice Awareness Week and the ideal time to announce our name change from Gisborne Palliative Care Service to Hospice Tairawhiti.

Research has shown that the name Gisborne Palliative Care Service is not as well known as we thought, recognised mainly by people who have had an association with the service.  Hospice is more widely recognised.  Our task now is to educate the community that Hospice is not a building, but a philosophy of care.  Hospice Tairawhiti is one of a number of hospices throughout NZ who do not have an inpatient facility.  Care is provided where ever the patient and family may be - home, hospital or aged care.

Hospice Tairawhiti needs to raise over $150,000 this year to cover running expenses.  Hospice Awareness Week is a great time to make a donation and support the work done by hospice in your community.  Click on the 'Donate' button for further information on how to donate.
